Dykstra, who was set to box Chris Morgan, 45, in a celebrity boxing match in Atlantic City announced on Monday on Howard Stern’s “Howard 101” program that the weekend fight has been canceled as he concentrates his effort on a legal malpractice lawsuit he filed.
Morgan was caught on camera berating employees and customers at Bagel Boss in Bay Shore on Thursday, July 10, cursing out workers before turning his attention to the crowd behind him. A video of the incident went viral on social media, with millions of views.
“Unfortunately, the fight with the bagel-whatever-he-is will not be happening because I have a trial that’s going on and my attorneys have informed me I have a duty and an obligation to prepare for that trial,” Dykstra said on the show.
The boxing match was scheduled to be held at the Showboat Hotel. It is unclear if there will be a different match in its place. The New York Post reported that Dykstra could be replaced with “The Partridge Family’s” Danny Bonaduce or Chad Johnson from the “Bachelor.”
“Mr. Dykstra is withdrawing from his celebrity boxing match with Chris Morgan, the ‘Bagel Boss Guy,’ so that he can focus properly on preparing for his upcoming trial,” his attorney, John Pierce, said in a statement. “The fight will not be rescheduled.”
According to the Post, Dykstra is suing his former lawyers, and could face additional legal action after Celebrity Boxing promoter Damon Feldman alleges that Dykstra spent the last two week in a hotel on his dime in advance of the now-canceled fight.
“It’s like he robbed us. He’s a bum,” Feldman told The Post, saying he wants to sue to get the money back. “This is an absolute disgrace. It’s a black eye in the face of celebrity boxing.”
